Rising Up

{Written By, Candice Landis 03/31/2014}

Sometimes I Feel So Woefully Inadequate

As If I Were Placed Here By Accident

I Just Don't Feel That I'm Equipped

Especially When I Look Back At All The Times I've Slipped

In My Life I Have Done Much That Is Wrong

I Find My Children Sometimes Singing My Old Song

The One Where They Say They Won't Do The Things Their Parents Have Done

I Wonder If That Old Battle To Do Better Than Was Done By Us  Will Ever Be Won

It Seems We Just Find Different Ways To Fail

Ways We Can't Even See Because We Wear A Dark Veil

Satan Surrounds Us In Darkness and We Follow Him Like Sheep

Drinking From Sinful Pools,  So Thirsty For Pleasure We Drink Too Deep

We Drink Until We've Had More Than Our Fill

We Drink Until We Become Burdened And Ill

Wondering In Moments Of Clarity What We Were Thinking

Drowning In So Much Shame, Some Of Just Go Right Back To Sinful Drinking

There Does Come A Day Though When We Decide We've Had Enough

When We Realize That On Our Own We Just Cannot Rise Up

That Is When We Look Around And In The Distance We See A Flash Of light

Dimly Beckoning At First, But The Longer We Look It Grows More Bright

We Realize Then That Our Father Has Us In His Sight

He's Calling Us Home And Shining His Light

Then We  Focus On His Light And Towards It Begin To Crawl

We Cry Out To Our Father, Answering His Call, Confessing It All

He Surrounds Us In His Unfailing Grace And  Pours His Love Into Our Wounded Soul

He Lets Us Know How Much He Loves Us And How He Never Wanted Us To Go

He Gives Us Blessed Assurance That We Are Forgiven And The Slate Is Wiped Clean

He Promises To Provide Us With Our Every Need, If Only On Him Will We Lean

With His Guidance Once Again We Can Stand Tall, Washed Totally Clean

Nothing Left Of Old Hurts But Faded Scars, That Only Show If You Want Them To Be Seen

Scars That Are  Badges Of Battles  Our Father Helped Us To Overcome And Win

Battles That With His Help Lead Us To Choose A Godly Life, Filled With Love, Not Sin
